Had the above message and accompanying warning light during a very wet drive home on the school run. Looking up, seems to be something common on VAG vehicles that should clear itself – not sure whether by predetermined timeout, physically drying out or any other reasonable criterion. Here's hoping, really not the kind of message that inspires the greatest confidence!

Earlier, tried turning ignition on and off several times, no sign of the message going. Perhaps half an hour later, tried again and message initially appeared then self-cleared after a few seconds. My wife then took it out to the shops and had no further issues, so hopefully that's it sorted itself out for that particular deluge.

Front sensors are badly affected by heavy rain. On my previous car (not vw group) with ‘Active’ cruise control, heavy rain constantly rendered it ‘not working’ with the appropriate message coming up on the dash. When it dried out it became operational again.
Don’t think it’s too much to worry about.
